The Organs of St. Mary’s Church, Rostock

Great Organ

The impressive facade was made by Paul Schmidt, organ builder of Rostock, in 1770. After several redesigns and rebuilds by Marx (1793), Winzer (around 1880), Börger (1905-10) and others, today the case contains an organ by the Sauer firm of Frankfurt/Oder, built in 1938 with 83 stops, 5.700 pipes, playable on four manuals and pedal by electro-pneumatic action. About 30 stops have been retained from the previous instruments.
