The Choirs of St. Mary’s are part of the music ministry of Rostock City Parish. Currently there are six groups with a total of 140 members.

The Music Ministry of St. Mary’s is led by Karl-Bernhardin Kropf. In July 2007, he succeeded KMD Joachim
Vetter, who followed Dr. Hans-Joachim Wagner in 1982.

Services of the City Parish take place in St. Peter’s Church, too. The University Church and St. Nikolai are further
places of service. Music at those services is mostly under direction of Karl Scharnweber, second church musician of the parish.
Vorkurrende - Children’s Choir
Kids from 4 to 8 are being introduced to singing and music. Dancing, plays and using simple instruments are part of the rehearsals. This group is led by Jana-Christin
Walter (website>>) and Karl-Bernhardin Kropf together. From autumn 2008, the group will be furtherly divided and a group for children and parents will be offered.
Grosse Kurrende - Youth Choir
This group of teenagers is taking part in services occasionally. The music performed is a mix of classical repertoire and sacro-pop.
Kantorei St. Marien - St. Mary’s Mixed Choir
Founded in 1948 by Dr. Hans-Joachim Wagner, this group is the backbone of St. Mary’s church music. Members come from all over the city and from different
denominations. It performs oratorios, a-cappella music and the standard service repertoire. Vocal coaching is an essential part of the work.
Seniorenchor - Senior’s Choir
This group
gathers former members of the Kantorei and other people of age with interest in choir singing. Occasionally it performs in services, but mostly it is about singing for fun.
Vokalensemble
A small group performing music from before 1700.
Kammerchor - Chamber Choir
This group is going to be started in autumn 2008 and will focus on advanced
performances of mostly a-cappella music.
Posaunenchor - Brass Players
Founded in autumn 2007, this group consists of young players and is settled in the typical tradition of a versatile
German “Posaunenchor”. .
